What to Say in Hard Conversations

When I get nervous, I laugh and speak like I’m keeping up with Lorelai and Rory on the way to Luke’s. Especially when hard conversations come up.

It’s hard to tell from the outside, because I’m always been a fast talker. But I know when I’m monologuing.

And that wasn’t helping my relationships. I was so frustrated. Why couldn’t I just say the right thing? Why was this causing so much strife with my friends?

Sure, everyone loves a good story. But people also want to be understood. And my words didn’t actually solve the conflict.

I had to learn, especially in difficult conversations, how to move from character to collaborator.

I needed some tools to use and some feedback from others.
